Game Review: Wuthering Waves

Let's play a role-playing game (RPG) with Wuthering Waves!

🙶Waifus? It's not just about that! 🙷

*Note: Waifu (/ˈwf/  WY-foo) is a term used to refer to a fictional female character toward whom one feels romantic or sexual attraction.

Wuthering Waves is a free-to-play open-world action RPG with gacha mechanics, set in a post-apocalyptic world called 'Solaris-3'. It may be known for some as having a huge majority of female characters across the story, but it really isn't just about females.

-I promise. I'm straight.

But in all honesty, Wuthering Waves has more than just the characters and their design; the vast plains and the creative storyline is what hooked me more into playing and their amazing combat mechanics such as the 'dodge' and 'parry'.

They're in-game graphics are also especially breathtaking! I think spent half of my time being mesmerized by the landscapes instead of actually playing the game.

If you want to see some of these photos, let me show you a few shots I got from my own account and one of my friend's:

What is the Game About?

🙶To Find Thyself. 🙷

The game features a large open world on the planet Solaris-3, with traversal mechanics designed to support various forms of exploration. The game's story revolves around the Rover who slowly uncover their past and origins as they travel across the world. Along the way, they meet allies and enemies while continuing their journey, affecting the story throughout the game.

The gacha system allows players to obtain new Resonators and weapons through banners called Convenes, which include novice, event, and standard types. Event Convenes are limited-time banners featuring exclusive characters or weapons, and a pity system ensures 5-star items are obtained after a set number of pulls.

Goal of the Game 🏆

In Wuthering Waves, the main goal is a mix of story progression, exploration, and character growth. You play as the Rover, an amnesiac trying to uncover your past while learning about a ruined world shaped by a catastrophe called the Lament. Along the way, you explore a large open world, fight enemies, and recruit characters to strengthen your team. As you progress, you continue leveling up, collecting better gear, and taking on more difficult challenges, making the overall goal a cycle of discovering the story, improving your strength, and pushing through tougher content.

Weighing the Odds (Pros & Cons)

PROS

CONS

Smooth, fast-paced combat with satisfying combos

Performance issues (lag, stutter on some devices)

High-quality visuals and character design

Story can feel confusing or slow early on

Open world is fun and rewarding to explore

Grind-heavy progression later

Great mobility (grappling, wall-running)

Gacha system can be frustrating

Challenging, skill-based boss fights

Bugs and optimization issues at launch

Here's me experiencing the exact same performance issues while playing the game. This was shot before moments of disaster (my laptop died lol).

But these continuous awesome collaborations and events are what keeps me staying in the game! Recently, they had a collab with Persona series and Sonic! (Though, it killed my storage...)
